Poll: Majority of Voters Believe Hunter Biden Received Special Treatment From DOJ

President Biden’s son, Hunter, has kept himself in the news with legal issues as his father prepares to run for reelection, and according to a Harris/Messenger poll conducted by HarrisX, a majority of voters believe he has received special treatment from law enforcement officials.

Attorney General Merrick Garland designated U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel in the ongoing investigation into Hunter Biden on Friday. The decision was made after a plea agreement between Biden’s lawyers and Weiss’s team of prosecutors fell down, indicating that the matter would most likely go to trial. When asked if the Justice Department and the FBI were functioning fairly or if they were hiding Joe and Hunter Biden from a complete investigation, 44% said they were, while 56% said they were.

A substantial majority of people — 65% — believe former IRS employees turned whistleblowers who claim the Justice Department handled the Hunter Biden probe in order to protect him and Joe Biden. 79% of Republicans, 51% of Democrats, and 67% of Independents agree.

“The IRS whistleblowers are a serious development for Biden’s reelection campaign,” Dritan Nesho, CEO and lead pollster at HarrisX, stated.

While voters are aware of Hunter Biden’s legal issues, they are divided on how the authorities should handle the situation. 47 percent believe the special counsel will conduct a fair investigation into Hunter Biden, but 53% say a congressional probe is required due to possible bias in the Justice Department.

Democrats (68%) wanted a special counsel investigation, while Republicans (75%) preferred a legislative inquiry. The congressional investigative route was barely preferred by independents, 53%-47%.

The poll, which was conducted online from August 11 to 13, among 932 registered voters, had a margin of error of 3.2%.
