Netflix has announced that a limited beta test for streaming games on select devices will begin soon. The test will first be available to a small set of subscribers in Canada and the United Kingdom. In the coming weeks, the company intends to expand the test to desktops and Macs via the Netflix website.

Netflix will stream two games during the beta test: Oxenfree and Mining Adventure. When playing on a TV, users can use their smartphones to operate the games, while playing on the website, they can use a mouse and keyboard. The goal of this beta test is to improve game streaming technology and give members a better experience.

Amazon Fire TV, Google Chromecast, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku devices and TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart ONN are currently supported for streaming Netflix’s cloud games. This list is expected to grow over time as more devices are added.

Since 2021, Netflix has started offering games, first limited to iOS and Android phones. Through cloud gaming, this beta test will enable games to reach a bigger audience on new devices. The company had already hinted at converting smartphones into game controllers, and this official release confirms it.

The beta test is currently only available to users in Canada and the United Kingdom. There is no word on when it will be spread to other areas. Netflix’s gaming venture’s success remains to be known, as it enters a competitive market for cloud gaming services. By making games available on a number of devices, the firm hopes to make them more accessible to its global members.
