Snapchat’s AI Chatbot Has Gone Rogue, and No One Knows Why
Snapchat users have reported encountering some issues with the messaging app’s AI chatbot on Tuesday night. Specifically, the My AI chatbot posted a cryptic story on its profile and then failed to respond to text chats as usual, leaving some users perplexed.
Introduced earlier this year for global users, Snapchat’s My AI chatbot was designed to respond to users’ messages like a friend. It should be capable of suggesting places to go and lenses to use, as well as responding to any chat on a snap sent by users.
Unfortunately, it temporarily stopped functioning in any of these capacities, instead providing the same default response to all chat messages: “Sorry, I had to deal with a technical issue 😳.”
Furthermore, My AI reportedly posted its first and only story on its profile. Mashable was unable to view My AI’s story as it had been taken down, though videos shared by users on social media indicated it lasted for around a second. The story showed a plain beige area with a light speckled color at the upper part of the screen, leading users to speculate that it could be a wall and a ceiling.
Snapchat users are eager to see the AI chatbot back in action, providing helpful suggestions and engaging in friendly conversations. While technical glitches can occur, the incident has sparked curiosity about the cryptic story and its fleeting appearance on My AI’s profile. Snapchat’s dedicated user base is eagerly anticipating a resolution to these glitches, as the AI chatbot has become an integral part of their online interactions.
